French Rock Band Vadel
United States Debut
At Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz
In Los Angeles
On Wednesday, October 9, 2013LOS ANGELES, CA –September 16, 2013 – The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, is pleased to present rock band Vadel on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 7:30pm. Featuring 20 year-old multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Adam Vadel, who live in Paris, the band will make its US debut fresh off of opening dates for Santana in Europe this past summer. With his band, composed of David Junior Assolo (bass), Virgile Carlsson (drums), and Jaykeyboards (keyboards), Vadel delivers powerful and straight forward rock ‘n roll in the tradition of T. Rex, David Bowie, and the Kinks, flavored with Beatlesque pop, Zeppelin heaviness, and Prince-worthy funkiness. The show will start at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles CA 90064 (310.286.0553). Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. For more information on this event, please visit TRK’s event page here. 20-year old Adam Vadel swaggers onstage like a cross between Marc Bolan and Michael Hutchence. Born in 1993 in France to an English-Moroccan mother and an Armenian-Persian father, Vadel started studying music theory, percussion and piano at the Erik Satie Academy of Paris at age 6. He quickly became passionate about funk, soul and rock, growing up on a musical diet that included James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, David Bowie, and Michael Jackson. Early performances by the budding young prodigy included joining Tyrone Downie (The Wailers) on stage at a Parisian Latin club at age 9 and a guest spot on French late night show Le Grand Journal at age 13. At 17, he was selected to represent France at the international White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he won the First People’s Choice Award, enabling him to perform as a supporting act for The Doors with Ian Astbury, Woody Allen, and Thin Lizzy. He has also opened for Joe Cocker, Pink, Iggy Pop, and INXS.
This past summer, the band performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and opened for Santana’s European tour. In New York, Vadel works with producer Nick Sansano (Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, Run DMC). Vadel is signed to EMI‘s label Play-On, which released the band’s first single, “Drama Queen.” Weeks after the release date, “Drama Queen” earned a #1 position in the French airplay chart. The folk-rock single’s chart success helped drive popularity for the band’s eponymous debut album, which was released in 2012. Since the album’s release, “Drama Queen” has gone on to also chart in Switzerland, Belgium, and Quebec. Vadel is currently composing the music for a French and Canadian production, a rock opera called #: A Tale of the Future. He writes most of his songs in English. O
