In this artful animated short, the eccentric, isolated Mr. Hublot is obsessed with time management and routines. An accountant, he is agoraphobic and lives in a small, tidy suburban flat. His carefully ordered world is disrupted when he takes on an abandoned robot puppy. The film depicts an absurd post-industrial world, where nature has disappeared along with most “human” feelings. The poetic Mr. Hublot was inspired by the sculptures of Belgian artist Stéphane Halleux. This is the first time Laurent Witz and Alexandre Espigares have been nominated for an Academy Award.
