NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Fellowship for Change presents the inaugural event 72 Virgins Mocktail Party on Monday, May 25, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The event follows a successful four-week 72 Virgins workshop series teaching attendees how to make virgin cocktails. 72 Virgins celebrates the worldwide tradition of ‘socializing over a drink’ with a twist. The program goal is to create and foster a safe space for micro-community leaders of varied faiths and backgrounds. The workshops are setup to supply the tools these leaders need to create their own events encouraging cross-cultural conversations while celebrating religious differences. She served the Earth, and she was fun. With great sadness, we announce the death of our beloved friend Rachel Rosenthal [1926-2015]. Based in Los Angeles since the 1950s, Rosenthal was an interdisciplinary art pioneer, performer, teacher, animal-rights activist, and cultural icon. She passed peacefully on Sunday night, May 10, 2015, at 7:00pm, due to complications from congestive heart failure, surrounded by her Rachel Rosenthal Company family. Read the rest of this entry »

Highways Performance Space presents GUSH, five new contemporary dance works by independent choreographers Jennifer Kayle and Charlotte Adams on Friday, May 29, 2015 and Saturday, May 30, 2015. Kayle probes the realm of mortal passion, and the new era of human impact on the earth. Adams uncovers the body’s anatomy and its undoing, and the ludicrous toiling for success. Five works immerse viewers in the distinctly visceral performance of eleven dancers and two musicians. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) presents Le Pot de Confiture (The Jam Jar), a puppet play featuring the mischievous character Guignol de Lyon on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 7:30pm. Le Pot de Confiture is the most performed play of Laurent Mourguet, who created the iconic Guignol character in 1808. Le Collectif Zonzons refreshes this classic with a modern approach to the traditional art of the hand puppet. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, and tickets are available here. Opening on Friday, April 10, 2015, Bang Bang is a character-driven play that examines societal “headline” contentions with intensity and passion. Thuy Nga Productions presents global phenomenon Paris By Night 114: 1975-2015 – Toi La Nguoi Viet Nam (I Am Vietnamese) live on stage at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA, with three performances on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, 2015. The variety show, the 114th production of the Paris By Night franchise, commemorates the 40th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon with Vietnamese language music and dance by popular performers from the culture. The 100+ member cast will feature popular singers including Bang Kieu, Mai Thien Van, Minh Tuyet, Nhu Quynh, Ngoc Anh, and Quang Le.
