Frontiersman Pictures is proud to announce the summer VOD/DVD releases of the critically acclaimed film Circle the Wagen, a feature-length documentary directed by Ryan Steven Green that explores Volkswagen subculture in the United States. Circle the Wagen is an optimistic buddy/roadtrip/docu-dramedy that follows two friends as they drive a ramshackle 1972 VW bus across the country, with the help of the generous and close-knit VW community. The digital VOD (Video on Demand) release is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, 2014 through Devolver Digital Films. The Hangout Group and Malo will feature Surely Lorraine at The Silver Lake Sessions on Wednesday night, May 21, 2014, at Malo Cantina Suavecita on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Surely Lorraine front woman Anime Wong will perform her post-punk/new wave music project solo. Opening acts include cellist-singer-songwriter Luke Janela (9:15pm) and Kondo Exurbia (10:00pm) fronted by Tom Pinkava, of post-punk band Superbas and experimental sound project Communication Kills. Doors are at 8:00pm, with free drinks until 10:00pm using the super secret password found on the event’s Facebook page, and Happy Hour prices on food all night in the upstairs bar. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present multi-talented French actress Clémentine Célarié in the U.S. Premiere of Dans la Peau d’un Noir (Black Like Me) on Wednesday, May 14, and Thursday, May 15, 2014. The one-woman show is based on American journalist John Howard Griffin’s 1961 book, Black Like Me, adapted by Célarié into a live performance. Célarié will portray an African-American man in the production that promotes tolerance and humanism. The performance starts at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. Angel City Chorale (ACC) will reunite with acclaimed Composer Christopher Tin at its upcoming spring concerts, Elements, on Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Wilshire United Methodist Church in Los Angeles. Conducted by ACC Founder and Artistic Director Sue Fink, the first half of the concerts will feature selections that explore the four elements in a variety of musical styles including pop (Earth, Wind & Fire), classical (Brahms), as well as spirituals (“Ain’a That Good News”). The second half of the program features the West Coast Premiere of Tin’s new song cycle, The Drop that Contained the Sea, the much-anticipated follow-up to Tin’s Grammy Award-winning album, Calling All Dawns, which was hailed by critics as a masterpiece. Tin’s new classical/world music fusion work features stunning juxtapositions of rhythms and cultures. Songs depict global visions of water from the snows of Mongolia to the rains of Africa. Each of the 10 pieces is sung in a different language, including Proto-Indo-European, Turkish, and Xhosa. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present the Los Angeles premiere of Inconnu à cette adresse (Address Unknown) starring French film and theatre legends Thierry Lhermitte and Patrick Timsit on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, 2014. Inconnu à cette adresse is based on the book Address Unknown, written by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor. The novel was published just before the outbreak of World War 2, written as a series of letters between a Jewish art dealer living in San Francisco and his business partner, who had returned to Germany in 1932. It is credited with exposing, early on, the dangers of Nazism to the American public. The work was adapted for the stage by Michèle Levy-Bram. JNA Gallery at Bergamot Station Art Center is pleased to present Invitation to a Dream, the first Los Angeles solo exhibition of work by California artist and designer, from Monday, May 5 through Wednesday, May 14, 2014. The gallery will showcase a collection of approximately 30 small mixed media works and a dozen freestanding sculptures by LaBeouf. An Artist Reception will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. The Ebell of Los Angeles presents Unframed, an art exhibit celebrating Camille Waldorf’s new book of the same name. The Thursday evening reception is free and will take place in the Ebell Art Salon on April 10, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The exhibition will include 20 contemporary paintings and drawings by the artist, all of which are also featured in the pages of Unframed, which is due out on April 17, 2014, with advance copies available at the exhibition. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present vocalist-composer Perla Batalla In Concert, featuring pianist Karen Hammack and special guest comedy actor-writer Rick Batalla (Perla’s brother, founding member of the Troubadour Theater Company), on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Deftly moving through musical genres, the Grammy-nominated Perla Batalla will perform a variety of classic and original material, in both English and Spanish, including selections from her award-winning Mestiza song cycle; the Grammy-nominated Leonard Cohen tribute album, Bird on the Wire; as well as her own unique take on the Great American Songbook. As an added treat, Batalla will also feature new collaborative compositions and work-in-progress from her upcoming one-woman show inspired by the work and words of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, Blue House.
