Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, will hold a free screening on Monday, February 10, 2014 of two French short films, both nominated for this year’s Academy Awards. The films are Mr. Hublot, an animated short film about an eccentric man who adopts a robot puppy, and Avant Que De Tout Perdre (Just Before Losing Everything), a live action short film that follows a woman desperate to escape her abusive husband. A question and answer session will follow the films with Alexandre Espigares, one of the directors of Mr. Hublot. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series’ inaugural offering, which features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment, will be held on Saturday, January 25, Sunday, January 26, Saturday, February 8, and Sunday, February 9, 2014. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, in partnership with the Alliance Française of Los Angeles, is pleased to bring Les Lutins du Court-Métrage 2013 to Los Angeles as part of its public performing arts series on Friday, January 31, 2014. A selection of 2013’s best French short films will screen at the event. The evening’s format will be presented in two one-hour long programs with a 15-minute intermission, which will include complimentary wine and cheese. All films in French with English subtitles. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present Résolument Animés, a trip into the world of French animation on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Résolument Animés (Resolutely Animated) showcases a collection of animated shorts that highlight the unbridled creativity of France’s new generation of animation directors. The program is intended for an adult audience, though appropriate for ages 15 and up. Angel City Chorale (ACC), Los Angeles’ most entertaining and spirited choir, kicks off the season this year with Joyful, Joyful, its 20th annual holiday concert and sing-along, taking place over two nights the first weekend of December on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Wilshire United Methodist Church. The 160-member Angel City Chorale will perform its unique mix of Christmas and Chanukah favorites, as well as original compositions, in the group’s eclectic combination of styles ranging from classical to pop, incorporating contemporary, world, and gospel beats. The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), is pleased to present Monica Casadei’s Traviata, a contemporary dance interpretation of the famous opera performed by Italian company Artemis Danza, on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Traviata is based on Giuseppe Verdi’s famous opera La Traviata, translated into the language of dance by eclectic choreographer Casedei. The opera tells the doomed story of upper class prostitute Violetta, who sacrifices herself for love. The show will start at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. Arts organization Create:Fixate (C:F) presents Dreams on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Lot 613 in Downtown Los Angeles. Beyond C:F’s signature blend of vibrant artwork and eclectic music produced by local talent, this show captures the mixed-medium spirit – with over 25 visual artists – that patrons have come to expect from these one-night-only events. The excitement begins at 4:00pm with a three-hour gallery preview. Parents are encouraged to bring the whole family during the preview hours and take advantage of the Kids Kreativity Zone. Overflowing with art supplies, the Zone provides a supervised space where youth can dive into their own expression while parents explore the exhibit. While all ages are welcome during the preview, attendees must be at least 21-years old to enter after 7:00pm.
