Local creative organizer Wyatt Closs, visual street artist Patrick Martinez, and fashion photographer Colin Young-Wolff have joined forces in an artful call to action, Embrace Your Power, Embrace Our Communities, to promote voting in Los Angeles. Particularly aimed at young people and disaffected communities who are apathetic about voting, the campaign centers on a neon artwork with text that urges passersby to “Embrace Your Power.” The sign, a whimsical play on neon palm reader signage, was positioned and documented in diverse communities around Los Angeles; the resulting images and videos are being distributed online through a variety of social media platforms to serve as a catalyst for political action.More info...

Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) is proud to present a spectacular evening of interdisciplinary dance and circus theatre, Lux Aeterna Dance Company’s Eponym, premiering in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 30, 2014. The critically acclaimed Los Angeles-based Lux Aeterna, founded and directed by pioneering breakdance daredevil Jacob “Kujo” Lyons, will first perform the beautiful duet, “Catch Me If You Can’t,” followed by the poetic quintet “Eponym” at the TRK event. Creative dancer-choreographer Kujo and Lux are known for an eclectic and powerful movement vocabulary, which fuses various art forms such as breaking, contemporary dance, and circus arts. Award-winning film Bouncing Cats, the inspiring documentary of one man’s attempt to create a better life for the children of Uganda through hip hop, is on the festival circuit making its way around North America along with limited sneak peek screenings and benefit events. Narrated by Common and featuring interviews with Will.I.Am, and K’Naan, the story follows the legendary Crazy Legs of the Rock Steady Crew and b-boy Abramz, the founder of Breakdance Project Uganda (BPU), on a journey to unify, empower and inspire youth in the war torn region that has been called one of the worst places on earth to be a child.* The film, by director Nabil Elderkin, recently won “Best Documentary Feature Film” at the Urbanworld Film Festival in New York, “Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking” at the Newport Beach Film Festival, and “Audience Favorite Award” at Southern Utah International Documentary Film Festival.
