The latest missive from Acid Test has the label identifying with its hometown, Los Angeles, more than ever. LA-born Vienna resident and label mainstay Tin Man takes Vienna-born Angeleno resident John Tejada along for a four-track journey which dwells on the activity which defines life in the City of Angels: Driving. Opener “Swiftbox” is a perfect amalgam of Auvinen and Tejada’s respective styles— Tremulous 303 and complex minor key melodicism and deconstructed stabs. “Diamond Lanes” is another muscular acid cut with a subtle, swinging percussion. The Hangout Group and Malo will feature Surely Lorraine at The Silver Lake Sessions on Wednesday night, May 21, 2014, at Malo Cantina Suavecita on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Surely Lorraine front woman Anime Wong will perform her post-punk/new wave music project solo. Opening acts include cellist-singer-songwriter Luke Janela (9:15pm) and Kondo Exurbia (10:00pm) fronted by Tom Pinkava, of post-punk band Superbas and experimental sound project Communication Kills. Doors are at 8:00pm, with free drinks until 10:00pm using the super secret password found on the event’s Facebook page, and Happy Hour prices on food all night in the upstairs bar. Brand new electronic dance music label Modular Cowboy announces its inaugural releases, Cheap and Deep Rides Again (featuring remixes by Norman Nodge and Jonsson/Alter) and Mesa Sequences, available on vinyl and digital download exclusively through Hard Wax in late August/early September 2012. The new Modular Cowboy label is spearheaded by techno artist and music industry veteran Jay Ahern (a.k.a. Add Noise, Cheap and Deep, Hauntologists). As a label, Modular Cowboy focuses on deep club tracks, live improvisational works, and music apps that share the label’s creative vision of performance-based sound design and strong visual aesthetics with the end user. In conjunction with its Mesa Sequences EP, Modular Cowboy is also set to release Mesa Sequencer, a ground-breaking companion app for iPad/iPhone, created by musician and programmer Morgan Packard (Anticipate Recordings, Thicket), which radically changes the way audiences consume music – from passive consumers to active producers.
