Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present vocalist-composer Perla Batalla In Concert, featuring pianist Karen Hammack and special guest comedy actor-writer Rick Batalla (Perla’s brother, founding member of the Troubadour Theater Company), on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Deftly moving through musical genres, the Grammy-nominated Perla Batalla will perform a variety of classic and original material, in both English and Spanish, including selections from her award-winning Mestiza song cycle; the Grammy-nominated Leonard Cohen tribute album, Bird on the Wire; as well as her own unique take on the Great American Songbook. As an added treat, Batalla will also feature new collaborative compositions and work-in-progress from her upcoming one-woman show inspired by the work and words of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, Blue House. Laila Biali, the award-winning Canadian jazz pianist, vocalist and songwriter, will bring her signature genre-bending, crowd-sourced concerts to six major cities in her first headlining U.S. tour in March 2014. Biali is known for taking the best of pop, rock, classical and soul, and informing it with her knowledge of jazz, as she weaves together exquisite musical arrangements. Biali’s tour, supported by The Canada Council for the Arts, will feature Adam Thomas on bass and Fred Kennedy on drums. The trio will be joined by guest artists at each stop.

Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, will hold a free screening on Monday, February 10, 2014 of two French short films, both nominated for this year’s Academy Awards. The films are Mr. Hublot, an animated short film about an eccentric man who adopts a robot puppy, and Avant Que De Tout Perdre (Just Before Losing Everything), a live action short film that follows a woman desperate to escape her abusive husband. A question and answer session will follow the films with Alexandre Espigares, one of the directors of Mr. Hublot. Instant Fairy Tales: The Longest Winter, the series’ inaugural offering, which features an allegorical tale about learning to care for the environment, will be held on Saturday, January 25, Sunday, January 26, Saturday, February 8, and Sunday, February 9, 2014. The performances, by Rachel Rosenthal Company’s TOHUBOHU! Extreme Theatre Ensemble, begin at 4:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturday, and 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Sunday. Bahu-Beti-Biwi (Daughter-in-Law, Daughter, Wife), choreographed, written and directed by Gandhi, is a powerful work at the intersection of traditional Indian and contemporary Western cultures. Angel City Chorale (ACC), Los Angeles’ most entertaining and spirited choir, kicks off the season this year with Joyful, Joyful, its 20th annual holiday concert and sing-along, taking place over two nights the first weekend of December on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Wilshire United Methodist Church. The 160-member Angel City Chorale will perform its unique mix of Christmas and Chanukah favorites, as well as original compositions, in the group’s eclectic combination of styles ranging from classical to pop, incorporating contemporary, world, and gospel beats. The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), is pleased to present Monica Casadei’s Traviata, a contemporary dance interpretation of the famous opera performed by Italian company Artemis Danza, on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Traviata is based on Giuseppe Verdi’s famous opera La Traviata, translated into the language of dance by eclectic choreographer Casedei. The opera tells the doomed story of upper class prostitute Violetta, who sacrifices herself for love. The show will start at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W.
