Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present vocalist-composer Perla Batalla In Concert, featuring pianist Karen Hammack and special guest comedy actor-writer Rick Batalla (Perla’s brother, founding member of the Troubadour Theater Company), on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Deftly moving through musical genres, the Grammy-nominated Perla Batalla will perform a variety of classic and original material, in both English and Spanish, including selections from her award-winning Mestiza song cycle; the Grammy-nominated Leonard Cohen tribute album, Bird on the Wire; as well as her own unique take on the Great American Songbook. As an added treat, Batalla will also feature new collaborative compositions and work-in-progress from her upcoming one-woman show inspired by the work and words of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, Blue House. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, will hold a free screening on Monday, February 10, 2014 of two French short films, both nominated for this year’s Academy Awards. The films are Mr. Hublot, an animated short film about an eccentric man who adopts a robot puppy, and Avant Que De Tout Perdre (Just Before Losing Everything), a live action short film that follows a woman desperate to escape her abusive husband. A question and answer session will follow the films with Alexandre Espigares, one of the directors of Mr. Hublot. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, in partnership with the Alliance Française of Los Angeles, is pleased to bring Les Lutins du Court-Métrage 2013 to Los Angeles as part of its public performing arts series on Friday, January 31, 2014. A selection of 2013’s best French short films will screen at the event. The evening’s format will be presented in two one-hour long programs with a 15-minute intermission, which will include complimentary wine and cheese. All films in French with English subtitles. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present the World Kora Trio, a rare polycultural musical proposition rooted in western jazz traditions, on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The World Kora Trio, based in France, features American electric cellist Eric Longsworth, Malian kora player Chérif Soumano, and French singer-percussionist Jean-Luc Di Fraya. The group’s original jazz and folk compositions by Longsworth merge with the colors of African music, embodied by the kora. This will be the group’s U.S. debut; sponsored by Spedidam, Région Rhone Alpes, Fond de la Création Musicale, and The Canada Council for the Arts.

Theatre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) presents A Journey Through Advertising, the second installment of TRK’s short film series, a presentation of thought-provoking, stylish and humorous ads from France and beyond, on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 7:30pm. The presentation features a selection of advertisements, in French, English, and Spanish (with subtitles in English as needed), including shockvertisements, prevention ads, advertisements related to the environment, spots on junk consumption, as well as ads which fuel the obsession for a perfect body. Complimentary wine and cheese will be served at intermission. The program is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Two of the world’s best guitar ensembles will share the stage when Theatre Raymond Kabbaz presents California Guitar Trio (CGT) and Montréal Guitare Trio (MG3) performing together on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 7:30pm. When these two ensembles join forces, audiences will be treated to a “six by six-string” set of eclectic music, including Baroque fugues, Spaghetti Western movie themes, arena rock, world and surf music, and intricate original compositions. Featuring six virtuoso guitarists from four countries (Japan, Canada, Belgium, and the U.S.), CGT, on steel-stringed guitars, and MG3, on nylon-stringed guitars, fuse over 40 years of combined performing experience into one unique ‘phenomensemble.’ The event is the Los Angeles stop of a 20+ city tour in the U.S. and Canada and will be the first time the two trios will perform together in the City of Angels. Tears of Joy Theatre will perform The Ugliest Duckling, a puppet theatre version of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale, at Theatre Raymond Kabbaz at Le Lycee Francais de Los Angeles, on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 7:30pm. Set in Australia and starring a cast of colorful creatures in tabletop rod puppet form, The Ugliest Duckling adds a new twist to the beloved story. Written by playwright Marc Dunworth, The Ugliest Duckling features a baby platypus that will never grow into a graceful swan.
