Highways Performance Space presents GUSH, five new contemporary dance works by independent choreographers Jennifer Kayle and Charlotte Adams on Friday, May 29, 2015 and Saturday, May 30, 2015. Kayle probes the realm of mortal passion, and the new era of human impact on the earth. Adams uncovers the body’s anatomy and its undoing, and the ludicrous toiling for success. Five works immerse viewers in the distinctly visceral performance of eleven dancers and two musicians. Thuy Nga Productions presents global phenomenon Paris By Night 114: 1975-2015 – Toi La Nguoi Viet Nam (I Am Vietnamese) live on stage at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA, with three performances on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5, 2015. The variety show, the 114th production of the Paris By Night franchise, commemorates the 40th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon with Vietnamese language music and dance by popular performers from the culture. The 100+ member cast will feature popular singers including Bang Kieu, Mai Thien Van, Minh Tuyet, Nhu Quynh, Ngoc Anh, and Quang Le. Longtime hosts Nguyen Ngoc Ngan and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen will return once again to emcee the four-hour live concerts.

Bootleg Theater will present the world premiere of Circles, the new play by Lisa Harris, opening in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 5, 2015 and running through Saturday, March 28, 2015. The work, directed by Andrew Heffernan, is an incendiary tango between the anima and animus. Featuring Harris and Blake Adams, Circles grapples with the fundamental mysteries of human connection. Harris is best known as the original producer of the OBIE Award-winning international hit, Mabou Mines DollHouse. Bezerk Productions and Highways Performance Space present Melody of Chaos, an evening of free-spirited and psychologically intense visual and performing art, on Saturday, January 17, 2015. The event features the work of Linda Carmella Sibio, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1977 and is known for her cathartic performance and visual art that explores madness and creativity. The evening will start with an original new performance piece by Sibio, “Human-Pig Hybrid.” The work is a nonlinear exploration that juxtaposes cultural notions of “the pig” with mental illness. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) is proud to present a spectacular evening of interdisciplinary dance and circus theatre, Lux Aeterna Dance Company’s Eponym, premiering in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 30, 2014. The critically acclaimed Los Angeles-based Lux Aeterna, founded and directed by pioneering breakdance daredevil Jacob “Kujo” Lyons, will first perform the beautiful duet, “Catch Me If You Can’t,” followed by the poetic quintet “Eponym” at the TRK event. Creative dancer-choreographer Kujo and Lux are known for an eclectic and powerful movement vocabulary, which fuses various art forms such as breaking, contemporary dance, and circus arts. The award-winning company cultivates beauty from sources that might not otherwise be considered beautiful, in the traditional sense, transforming urban techniques into something transcendent and radiant. Of Kujo, former Los Angeles Times Dance Critic Lewis Segal said, “there is no more-brilliant choreographer in Los Angeles at the moment.”

Pasadena Arts Council (PAC) is proud to announce AxS Festival 2014 | Curiosity, in diverse venues throughout the greater Pasadena area from Friday, September 19, 2014, through Sunday, October 5, 2014. AxS [ak-sis], produced by Pasadena Arts Council in partnership with numerous Pasadena arts and science institutions, is a two-week+ citywide festival spanning three weekends that explores the nexus of artistic and scientific inquiry, promoting experimentation and cross-fertilization between these disciplines. Programming is saturated with innovative visual art, theatre, dance, music, photography, history, science, literature, film, and architecture. The 2014 theme, Curiosity, was inspired by the NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)-built Mars Rover, “Curiosity,” which is currently exploring the Martian surface some 50 million miles above us. Overtone Industries, a celebrated force in the evolution of contemporary music theatre and experimental opera, will share the stage at REDCAT, CalArt’s downtown center for contemporary arts, with two other Los Angeles-based arts organizations during the kick-off weekend of the New Original Works Festival 2014 (NOW Festival), Thursday, July 24, through Saturday, July 26, 2014. Overtone Industries will present the first glimpse of ICELAND, a new multidisciplinary work, written, composed, and directed by O-Lan Jones in collaboration with critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Emmett Tinley. The production will feature a fourteen-member cast, with two soloists, a twelve-member choir, and a chamber orchestra. ICELAND is a modern love story, set in a mythical and timeless world, where elemental forces and ancient creatures challenge the hero and heroine on an archetypal journey.
