Bootleg Theater will present the world premiere of Circles, the new play by Lisa Harris, opening in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 5, 2015 and running through Saturday, March 28, 2015. The work, directed by Andrew Heffernan, is an incendiary tango between the anima and animus. Featuring Harris and Blake Adams, Circles grapples with the fundamental mysteries of human connection. Harris is best known as the original producer of the OBIE Award-winning international hit, Mabou Mines DollHouse. Performances run approximately 75 minutes, with no intermission, and start nightly at 7:30pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings for the four-week run. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) is proud to present the West Coast Premiere of Molière malgré moi (Molière in Spite of Myself), a one-man show starring French actor Francis Perrin, on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Famous for playing such characters as Scapin, Alceste, and Philinte at the Comédie Française, Perrin’s performance will lead the audience through Molière’s life and career, linking his plays to his personal life, and presenting short sequences from Molière’s best known creations. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present the Los Angeles premiere of Inconnu à cette adresse (Address Unknown) starring French film and theatre legends Thierry Lhermitte and Patrick Timsit on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27, 2014. Inconnu à cette adresse is based on the book Address Unknown, written by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor. The novel was published just before the outbreak of World War 2, written as a series of letters between a Jewish art dealer living in San Francisco and his business partner, who had returned to Germany in 1932. It is credited with exposing, early on, the dangers of Nazism to the American public. The work was adapted for the stage by Michèle Levy-Bram. Cornerstone Theater Company and The California Endowment, in partnership with The Black Parallel School Board, will bring the community, policy makers, and the media together to dramatize personal stories of school discipline and to discuss alternatives to harsh practices on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the State Capitol in Sacramento. This bridge building event, Talk it Out: A Community Conversation to Fix School Discipline, will feature a dramatic reading of a new play, Willful, performed by students, community members and professional actors, with a focus on the current debate over the excessive use of “willful defiance” in school suspensions and expulsions. The event is sponsored by the office of Roger Dickinson, D-Sacramento and author of AB 420, a new bill that would restrict the ill-defined and overused “willful defiance” rationale for harsh disciplinary measures.
