Fishtown’s Highwire Gallery is pleased to present MicroCosmic, an exhibit of 2-dimensional works by Philadelphia artists Joshua Gabriel, Rochelle Marcus Dinkin, and Rachel Isaac, running from Friday, December 6, 2013 through Saturday, December 29, 2013. Each of the three MicroCosmic artists uses intricate detail and layers to create their own worlds, inhabiting the space between memory, fantasy, history, and the galaxy. MicroCosmic kicks off with an opening reception featuring wine, hors d’oeuvres, all three artists in attendance, and other treats on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. SAVE THE DATE: 11/9/13… Audiobook lovers and literature buffs can delight in the rare opportunity to see and hear LA’s top audiobook narrators and celebrity guests come together live to perform selections from time honored classics and contemporary best sellers of every genre. The marathon will begin with a Children’s Hour followed by twelve 90-minute performance blocks. In each block a different collection of five fan favorite narrators will read selections in a specific genre of literature. Arts organization Create:Fixate (C:F) presents Dreams on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Lot 613 in Downtown Los Angeles. Beyond C:F’s signature blend of vibrant artwork and eclectic music produced by local talent, this show captures the mixed-medium spirit – with over 25 visual artists – that patrons have come to expect from these one-night-only events. The excitement begins at 4:00pm with a three-hour gallery preview. Parents are encouraged to bring the whole family during the preview hours and take advantage of the Kids Kreativity Zone. Overflowing with art supplies, the Zone provides a supervised space where youth can dive into their own expression while parents explore the exhibit. While all ages are welcome during the preview, attendees must be at least 21-years old to enter after 7:00pm.

Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present the World Kora Trio, a rare polycultural musical proposition rooted in western jazz traditions, on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The World Kora Trio, based in France, features American electric cellist Eric Longsworth, Malian kora player Chérif Soumano, and French singer-percussionist Jean-Luc Di Fraya. The group’s original jazz and folk compositions by Longsworth merge with the colors of African music, embodied by the kora. This will be the group’s U.S. debut; sponsored by Spedidam, Région Rhone Alpes, Fond de la Création Musicale, and The Canada Council for the Arts.

Following the success of his recent Kompakt single “Somewhere,” John Tejada returns to his own Palette Recordings imprint with “Anaphora.” After a series of collaborative projects with fellow artists, Tejada distinguishes “Anaphora” as his first solo release on Palette since 2009 and presents a double headliner of his trademark musicality and driving rhythms, delivering a set of two eruptive grooves with a focus that has earned Tejada the respect of both listeners and peers alike. “Anaphora” continues where John’s 2006 smash “The End Of It All” left off, showcasing Tejada’s trademark use of hopeful melodies and emotive sequences.
