Bahu-Beti-Biwi (Daughter-in-Law, Daughter, Wife), choreographed, written and directed by Gandhi, is a powerful work at the intersection of traditional Indian and contemporary Western cultures. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present Résolument Animés, a trip into the world of French animation on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Résolument Animés (Resolutely Animated) showcases a collection of animated shorts that highlight the unbridled creativity of France’s new generation of animation directors. The program is intended for an adult audience, though appropriate for ages 15 and up. Cheese and wine will be served during the intermission between the two parts of the program (roughly 45 minutes each). Fishtown’s Highwire Gallery is pleased to present MicroCosmic, an exhibit of 2-dimensional works by Philadelphia artists Joshua Gabriel, Rochelle Marcus Dinkin, and Rachel Isaac, running from Friday, December 6, 2013 through Saturday, December 29, 2013. Each of the three MicroCosmic artists uses intricate detail and layers to create their own worlds, inhabiting the space between memory, fantasy, history, and the galaxy. MicroCosmic kicks off with an opening reception featuring wine, hors d’oeuvres, all three artists in attendance, and other treats on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Angel City Chorale (ACC), Los Angeles’ most entertaining and spirited choir, kicks off the season this year with Joyful, Joyful, its 20th annual holiday concert and sing-along, taking place over two nights the first weekend of December on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Wilshire United Methodist Church. The 160-member Angel City Chorale will perform its unique mix of Christmas and Chanukah favorites, as well as original compositions, in the group’s eclectic combination of styles ranging from classical to pop, incorporating contemporary, world, and gospel beats. The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), is pleased to present Monica Casadei’s Traviata, a contemporary dance interpretation of the famous opera performed by Italian company Artemis Danza, on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Traviata is based on Giuseppe Verdi’s famous opera La Traviata, translated into the language of dance by eclectic choreographer Casedei. The opera tells the doomed story of upper class prostitute Violetta, who sacrifices herself for love. The show will start at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. Arts organization Create:Fixate (C:F) presents Dreams on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Lot 613 in Downtown Los Angeles. Beyond C:F’s signature blend of vibrant artwork and eclectic music produced by local talent, this show captures the mixed-medium spirit – with over 25 visual artists – that patrons have come to expect from these one-night-only events. The excitement begins at 4:00pm with a three-hour gallery preview. Parents are encouraged to bring the whole family during the preview hours and take advantage of the Kids Kreativity Zone. Overflowing with art supplies, the Zone provides a supervised space where youth can dive into their own expression while parents explore the exhibit. While all ages are welcome during the preview, attendees must be at least 21-years old to enter after 7:00pm.

Malika, Queen of Cats is an artful rendition of a classic Palestinian folktale about the power of giving. The performance is full of fun, with humor and sight gags for children and adults alike to enjoy. The hour-long story features a benevolent royal cat, decked out in a jeweled headdress and colorful Arabic garb, that dispenses magic to the worthy. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present the World Kora Trio, a rare polycultural musical proposition rooted in western jazz traditions, on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The World Kora Trio, based in France, features American electric cellist Eric Longsworth, Malian kora player Chérif Soumano, and French singer-percussionist Jean-Luc Di Fraya. The group’s original jazz and folk compositions by Longsworth merge with the colors of African music, embodied by the kora. This will be the group’s U.S. debut; sponsored by Spedidam, Région Rhone Alpes, Fond de la Création Musicale, and The Canada Council for the Arts.
