Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) presents Le Pot de Confiture (The Jam Jar), a puppet play featuring the mischievous character Guignol de Lyon on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 7:30pm. Le Pot de Confiture is the most performed play of Laurent Mourguet, who created the iconic Guignol character in 1808. Le Collectif Zonzons refreshes this classic with a modern approach to the traditional art of the hand puppet. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, and tickets are available here. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz is pleased to present 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, a steampunk-inspired puppet theatre performance based on the classic 19th century Jules Verne science fiction novel by Portland-based Tears of Joy Theatre, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. The story investigates a wave of mysterious sinkings encountered by the advanced submarine, the Nautilus, commanded by Captain Nemo. Devolver Digital Films is proud to announce the digital VOD release of the surreal horror-dark comedy, Motivational Growth, on September 30, 2014. Directed and written by Don Thacker, the psycho-horror-fantasy feature film follows a man who is slowly driven insane by the talking mold in his bathroom, voiced by the legendary cult star Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, Star Trek). The film screened at over 30 festivals and racked up an impressive 27 awards. September 30th will see the worldwide digital VOD release (via Devolver in most countries and Indiecan Entertainment in Canada). The Canadian Blu-ray and DVD release will also be on September 30th via Indiecan. The U.S. DVD release will happen the following week, on October 7, 2014 (via Parade Deck Films). Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present Résolument Animés, a trip into the world of French animation on Thursday, January 16, 2014. Résolument Animés (Resolutely Animated) showcases a collection of animated shorts that highlight the unbridled creativity of France’s new generation of animation directors. The program is intended for an adult audience, though appropriate for ages 15 and up. Cheese and wine will be served during the intermission between the two parts of the program (roughly 45 minutes each). The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, is pleased to present Malika, Queen of the Cats, a puppet theatre performance by Portland-based Tears of Joy Theatre, on Thursday, November 14, 2013. Malika, Queen of Cats is an artful rendition of a classic Palestinian folktale about the power of giving. The performance is full of fun, with humor and sight gags for children and adults alike to enjoy. The hour-long story features a benevolent royal cat, decked out in a jeweled headdress and colorful Arabic garb, that dispenses magic to the worthy. 501 (see three) ARTS and Highways Performance Space present Who’s Hungry -Santa Monica, part of an ongoing series of experimental tabletop puppet plays that give a voice and face to hunger, with four performances on Fridays and Saturdays from January 27 to February 4, 2012. The plays, produced and written by Dan Froot, designed and directed by Dan Hurlin, with music by Amy Denio (a Meet The Composer commission), aim to raise awareness of the lives of those of us who, on a daily basis, must choose between life’s basic necessities – food or rent, food or medicine, food or bus fare. The upcoming production weaves together the stories of five homeless and/or hungry residents of Santa Monica, California, incorporating puppetry, dance, music, and text.
