The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), is pleased to present Monica Casadei’s Traviata, a contemporary dance interpretation of the famous opera performed by Italian company Artemis Danza, on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Traviata is based on Giuseppe Verdi’s famous opera La Traviata, translated into the language of dance by eclectic choreographer Casedei. The opera tells the doomed story of upper class prostitute Violetta, who sacrifices herself for love. The show will start at 7:30pm and will take place at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, 10361 W. The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, is pleased to present Malika, Queen of the Cats, a puppet theatre performance by Portland-based Tears of Joy Theatre, on Thursday, November 14, 2013. Malika, Queen of Cats is an artful rendition of a classic Palestinian folktale about the power of giving. The performance is full of fun, with humor and sight gags for children and adults alike to enjoy. The hour-long story features a benevolent royal cat, decked out in a jeweled headdress and colorful Arabic garb, that dispenses magic to the worthy. Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK), the performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, is pleased to present the World Kora Trio, a rare polycultural musical proposition rooted in western jazz traditions, on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. The World Kora Trio, based in France, features American electric cellist Eric Longsworth, Malian kora player Chérif Soumano, and French singer-percussionist Jean-Luc Di Fraya. The group’s original jazz and folk compositions by Longsworth merge with the colors of African music, embodied by the kora. This will be the group’s U.S. debut; sponsored by Spedidam, Région Rhone Alpes, Fond de la Création Musicale, and The Canada Council for the Arts.

The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, is pleased to present rock band Vadel on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 7:30pm. Featuring 20 year-old multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter Adam Vadel, who live in Paris, the band will make its US debut fresh off of opening dates for Santana in Europe this past summer. With his band, composed of David Junior Assolo (bass), Virgile Carlsson (drums), and Jaykeyboards (keyboards), Vadel delivers powerful and straight forward rock ‘n roll in the tradition of T. Rex, David Bowie, and the Kinks, flavored with Beatlesque pop, Zeppelin heaviness, and Prince-worthy funkiness.

The performance space at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles, Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz, is pleased to open the 13th season of its public performing arts series on Friday, September 27, 2013 with Laila Biali, the award-winning Canadian jazz pianist, vocalist and songwriter. Biali is known for taking the best of pop, rock, classical and soul, and informing it with her knowledge of jazz as she weaves together her exquisite musical arrangements. The event is the Los Angeles stop of Biali’s North American Tour. This will also be Biali’s Los Angeles debut as a solo performer. Joining Biali on stage will be Hamilton Price (bass) and Aaron McLendon (drums).

For the fourth year, Theatre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) presents A Week of French Language Cinema in Los Angeles, with FREE nightly screenings of award-winning Francophonic films, from Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22, 2013. The program includes notable films Sister from Switzerland (3/18), Seducing Doctor Lewis from Canada (3/19), The Snows of Kilimanjaro from France (3/20), On the Sly from Belgium (3/21), and Laurence Anyways from Quebec (3/22). All films include subtitles in English. Monday and Friday night screenings are at 7:45pm, preceded by receptions with wine and hors d’oeuvres at 7:00pm. Theatre Raymond Kabbaz (TRK) presents A Journey Through Advertising, the second installment of TRK’s short film series, a presentation of thought-provoking, stylish and humorous ads from France and beyond, on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 7:30pm. The presentation features a selection of advertisements, in French, English, and Spanish (with subtitles in English as needed), including shockvertisements, prevention ads, advertisements related to the environment, spots on junk consumption, as well as ads which fuel the obsession for a perfect body. Complimentary wine and cheese will be served at intermission. The program is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Theatre Raymond Kabbaz presents Traverse, an inventive dance, live music and theatre mash-up from the French performance company Arcosm, on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 7:30pm. The physical and musical production takes one man’s boring daily household routine and explodes it into a magnificent spectacle of choreography and percussion, suitable for audiences of all ages. Traverse was created in 2011 by Thomas Guerry, a dancer and choreographer, in collaboration with Camille Rocailleux, a percussionist, pianist, and composer. All ages are welcome. Two of the world’s best guitar ensembles will share the stage when Theatre Raymond Kabbaz presents California Guitar Trio (CGT) and Montréal Guitare Trio (MG3) performing together on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 7:30pm. When these two ensembles join forces, audiences will be treated to a “six by six-string” set of eclectic music, including Baroque fugues, Spaghetti Western movie themes, arena rock, world and surf music, and intricate original compositions. Featuring six virtuoso guitarists from four countries (Japan, Canada, Belgium, and the U.S.), CGT, on steel-stringed guitars, and MG3, on nylon-stringed guitars, fuse over 40 years of combined performing experience into one unique ‘phenomensemble.’ The event is the Los Angeles stop of a 20+ city tour in the U.S. and Canada and will be the first time the two trios will perform together in the City of Angels.
