Coin & Ghost, LA’s theatrical home for remixed mythologies, will present its latest World premiere, Bad Hamlet, at the end of July, as the inaugural production of its second season. The emerging theatre company’s new work—devised by the ensemble and directed by Rob Adler—is an irreverent, interactive, and inventive play that places Shakespeare’s masterpiece directly up against the many interpretations of it, whether accurate, misremembered, or re-invented entirely. Bad Hamlet will run from Thursday, July 25, through Saturday, August 24, 2019, at New American Theatre in Hollywood. Indie film darling Jillian Leigh’s daring new play, Hooked, will have its World Premiere at this year’s inaugural Los Angeles Theater Festival in Hollywood at The Ruby Theatre, opening on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 for eight performances through Friday, September 25, 2015. Set in a turbulent New York City (1988 & now), against a backdrop of police misconduct and political corruption, the complex play is about the patterns that we cannot break. Bootleg Theater will present the world premiere of Circles, the new play by Lisa Harris, opening in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 5, 2015 and running through Saturday, March 28, 2015. The work, directed by Andrew Heffernan, is an incendiary tango between the anima and animus. Featuring Harris and Blake Adams, Circles grapples with the fundamental mysteries of human connection. Harris is best known as the original producer of the OBIE Award-winning international hit, Mabou Mines DollHouse. Angel City Chorale (ACC) will reunite with acclaimed Composer Christopher Tin at its upcoming spring concerts, Elements, on Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Wilshire United Methodist Church in Los Angeles. Conducted by ACC Founder and Artistic Director Sue Fink, the first half of the concerts will feature selections that explore the four elements in a variety of musical styles including pop (Earth, Wind & Fire), classical (Brahms), as well as spirituals (“Ain’a That Good News”). The second half of the program features the West Coast Premiere of Tin’s new song cycle, The Drop that Contained the Sea, the much-anticipated follow-up to Tin’s Grammy Award-winning album, Calling All Dawns, which was hailed by critics as a masterpiece. Tin’s new classical/world music fusion work features stunning juxtapositions of rhythms and cultures. Songs depict global visions of water from the snows of Mongolia to the rains of Africa. Each of the 10 pieces is sung in a different language, including Proto-Indo-European, Turkish, and Xhosa.
